A 25-year-old man, identified as Selim Bepari, has died from his injuries following an air conditioner compressor explosion in the capital’s Narinda area.
The deceased, Mohammad Selim (33), passed away around 10pm on Friday at the ICU of the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.
Assistant Professor Dr Shaon Bin Rahman, a resident surgeon at the institute, confirmed that the youth had sustained 100 per cent burns, including severe damage to his respiratory tract.
The victim’s parents, Muktar Bepari (55) and Selina Begum (46), remain hospitalised with 22 per cent and 20 per cent burns respectively.
The incident occurred late Thursday night on the third floor of a five-storey building. According to family members, the explosion originated from AC compressors that Muktar Bepari, who owns a shop in Dholaipar, had been storing inside the residential flat.
The blast was powerful enough to completely devastate the interior of the apartment.
