A 26-year-old man allegedly committed suicide in Senbag upazila of Noakhali on Monday morning following an argument with his wife after returning home from watching the football World Cup final.
The deceased was identified as Raihan, a resident of Kesharpar village under No 2 Kesharpar Union.
Local and police sources said Raihan had enjoyed the World Cup final with others in his locality on Sunday night. Upon returning home after the match, an altercation and misunderstanding occurred between him and his wife over an undisclosed matter.
At one stage, out of grievance towards his wife, he hanged himself from the ceiling of his room. Upon being informed of the incident by family members, a team from Senbag Police Station rushed to the spot.
Senbag Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abdur Rahim Sarkar said an inquest report (surat-hal) of the body is being prepared.
The OC added that while family discord has been noted, the police are investigating whether there are any other underlying causes before taking further legal action.
