An HSC examinee died as she reportedly jumped from the roof of a building in Kachijhuli area of Mymensingh on Thursday morning, just four hours before her examinations.
The deceased, Tisha Sarkar, 18, was a student of Mintu College in Tarakanda Middle Bazar.
Mymensingh Additional Superintendent of Police (crime and operations) Ashraful Karim confirmed the incident.
Police and locals said Tisha had been living in a female students’ hostel on Kachijhuli Masjid Road for the past two years. Around 6am, she climbed to the roof of the six‑storey building and jumped.
She was rescued in critical condition and taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
As other hostel residents were asleep, they could not provide immediate details of the moments before the incident.
Kotwali Model Police recovered the body and sent it to the MMCH morgue for autopsy.
Additional SI Ashraful said preliminary findings suggest she died after jumping from the roof. “We are investigating whether academic pressure or other reasons were involved,” he said.
Legal proceedings are underway, he added.
