Police recovered the body of a Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) employee from a garage in Jatrabari on Friday morning. Preliminary reports suggest he was beaten to death with metal rods.

The deceased, identified as Anwar Hossain Babu, 43, was found around 11am at a garage owned by Faruk Mia in North Sharifpara, Jatrabari. The body was later sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Sub-Inspector Md Amir Hossain of Jatrabari Police Station said, “Anwar had multiple injuries. Locals informed the family after finding him tied up inside the garage. Preliminary evidence points to assault with rods and metal angles.”

Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and have launched an investigation. A case is underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

Anwar’s brother, Delwar Hossain, said the family resides in Matuail Mridhabari, Jatrabari. Anwar, a father of two, worked at BIWTA. “We’ve heard that local guards attacked him over suspicion of stealing rods and metal angles,” he said.
