Police have arrested 52-year-old Adhir Monidas over allegations of attempting to rape a 10-year-old girl in Saturia Upazila of Manikganj.
Monidas was taken to court on Tuesday afternoon and remanded in prison. He had been detained from the area by police late on Monday night. The accused resides in the Darggram area of Saturia.
The victim is a student at a local government primary school. According to police and court sources, the incident occurred around 1:45pm on Monday when the girl went to bathe in the pond of the late Joran Chandra Monidas. While applying shampoo, Monidas allegedly attempted to assault her.
Upon learning of the incident, the girl informed her family, prompting her father to file a complaint with Saturia Police Station.
Saturia Police Officer-in-Charge Mosharraf Hossain said the complaint led to Monidas’ arrest.
A case has been filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, and the accused has been sent to court.
