Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar has warned that if the BNP government imposes decisions based on majority power without consensus, the country could once again face a “July-like violent situation.”
He made the remarks while speaking as chief guest at a seminar titled “Government against referendum verdict, country facing crisis” held Saturday morning at the Khulna Press Club banquet hall.
Golam Porwar said the government has separated the “July Charter” from the referendum process, alleging inconsistency in its implementation.
“Although the government claims it will fully implement the July Charter, by avoiding the referendum it is following the path of Sheikh Hasina,” he said.
He further alleged that provisions of the July Charter regarding parliamentary oversight of foreign agreements are being ignored, claiming that decisions are being influenced externally.
“If the referendum process is bypassed and governance is driven by majority force, the country will again be pushed toward a July-like bloody path,” Golam Porwar cautioned.
The seminar was chaired by Khulna city Jamaat Ameer Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman.
Khulna-6 MP Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and Khulna-2 MP Sheikh Mohammad Jahangir Hossain Helal also addressed the event.
