Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah has mourned the death of his childhood coach, sharing a heartfelt message in memory of the mentor who first set him on the path to professional cricket.
The experienced campaigner revealed that without the guidance of his beloved ‘Kazi bhai’, his journey in the sport might never have taken shape.
“I am deeply saddened to hear that our beloved Kazi bhai is no more. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. May Almighty Allah forgive him and grant him Jannatul Ferdous. My heartfelt condolences to his family,” he wrote on social media.
Reflecting on his formative years, Mahmudullah acknowledged the enormous influence his coach had on his development. From his early days in school cricket to representing Mymensingh County Cricket Club, the late mentor remained a constant source of support and direction.
He also recalled a pivotal moment during his teenage years when his family were uncertain about allowing him to continue pursuing cricket seriously.
“When I was in Class Eight or Nine, my family were unsure whether I should carry on with cricket. He was the one who convinced my parents to let me follow this dream. He saw potential in me and inspired me to become a cricketer through discipline and hard work.”
Mahmudullah described his childhood coach as disciplined, devoted and one of the pioneers of cricket in Mymensingh.
