Madaripur teenager Maisha Jebin won gold in the under-45kg kumite category at the district-level karate competition in the ‘Notun Kuri Sports 2026’ programme. The class eight student from Madaripur Government Girls’ High School drew attention after a strong run through the tournament.
Maisha beat Juhaira Tasnim Juha in the opening round before overcoming Maria Akter and Hafsa Roza to reach the final. She then defeated Saptarshimandal Mridutrishna to secure the title.
The young karateka trains at the Madaripur District Administration (Goju Ryu) Club. She joined the club in 2021 and progressed through the belt examinations to earn a Brown Belt First Kyu in the Goju Ryu style.
Maisha already holds medals from several domestic events. She won gold in both kata and kumite at the Sheikh Kamal 2nd Bangladesh Youth Games and the 2024 Victory Day Inter-District Karate Competition. She also helped her school finish first in a team competition organised by the Directorate of Sports last year.
She comes from Amirabad in Madaripur Sadar. Her parents, Emran Hossain and Nargis Akhter, supported her involvement in karate from an early age.
Maisha now aims to represent Bangladesh at international level competitions in the future. Her recent performances have already made her one of the better-known young karate athletes in Madaripur.
