Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stated that local government elections will be held on schedule and democracy will be granted its institutional form.
He made the remarks after laying the foundation stone of a multi-storey building at Thakurgaon Hafezia Madrasa and Lillah Boarding following Friday prayers.
Addressing the gathering, the minister expressed his gratitude to the residents of Thakurgaon, stating that he remains “always indebted” to them for the support that has allowed him the opportunity to work on their behalf.
He further observed that the country’s current situation is significantly better than in the past, noting that the government is actively working to provide an institutional framework to previously fragile institutions.

This visit marks the Minister’s first three-day official tour of his constituency since the formation of the government. He commenced his formal activities in the area with the foundation stone ceremony at the mosque.
According to his official schedule, the minister will attend an Iftar Mahfil organised by ESDO on Friday.
On Saturday morning, he is slated to hold an exchange of views meeting with government officials, followed by an afternoon Iftar Mahfil hosted by the District BNP Mirza Ruhul Amin Smriti Sangsad. He is scheduled to depart for Dhaka on Sunday morning.
Also in attendance at the event were District BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin and various other party leaders and activists.
