Harrison Reed’s stunning 97th-minute strike secured Fulham a dramatic 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Craven Cottage on Sunday, cancelling out Cody Gakpo’s late goal for the visitors.
Liverpool academy graduate Harry Wilson opened the scoring in the 17th minute, firing a precise shot into the bottom corner after a perfect pass from Raul Jimenez. The goal was initially disallowed for offside but was reinstated after a VAR review.
Fulham’s early dominance saw Liverpool struggling without top scorer Hugo Ekitike, leaving the visitors toothless in the first half.
After the break, Liverpool improved, and Florian Wirtz equalised in the 57th minute with a clinical finish, marking his second goal for the club. The second half continued at a frantic pace, with Alexis Mac Allister and Wilson both hitting the woodwork as the game swung end-to-end.
Gakpo appeared to snatch the victory for Liverpool in the 94th minute, bundling home Jeremie Frimpong’s cross to trigger celebrations from the travelling Reds.
Fulham, however, had the final word. Harrison Reed unleashed a sublime long-range effort from 30 metres into the top corner, earning Fulham a deserved point and marking his first goal since April 2023.
Liverpool remain fourth in the Premier League with 34 points from 20 matches, now 14 points behind leaders Arsenal, and remain unbeaten in eight league games and nine in all competitions. Fulham sit 11th on 28 points, celebrating a hard-fought point against a top-four side.
Liverpool started the brighter side, with Gakpo testing the Fulham defence early but failing to convert key chances. Wilson, making only his third senior Liverpool appearance, finished expertly after being set up by Jimenez to give Fulham the early lead.
After halftime, Liverpool dominated possession, with Wirtz’s equaliser confirmed following a lengthy VAR review. Gakpo’s 94th-minute goal seemed to secure the win, but Reed’s late screamer ensured the points were shared.
