Security has been tightened across the Indian capital after the Delhi High Court, Indira Gandhi International Airport and several other key locations received bomb threats via email on Friday, a day before India’s 80th Independence Day celebrations.
The email, reportedly sent in the name of the separatist “Khalistan” movement, warned of a series of explosions at multiple locations in Delhi. The message claimed that members of the movement had already entered the capital, reports NDTV.
Titled “Blast Delhi High Court @2:11 PM,” the email claimed that an explosion would take place at the Delhi High Court at 2:11pm on Saturday. It further warned of blasts at several district courts an hour later.
The message linked the alleged threats to cases being heard by courts in Delhi and accused the judiciary of focusing only on cases involving Sikhs.
Besides the Delhi High Court and Terminal 3 of the IGI Airport, the email named several other locations, including Jamnagar House, the Jhandewalan building, the Saket office, the District Magistrate’s Office and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s Office in Delhi Cantonment.
The threat also mentioned the Delhi Metro and trains travelling towards Ambala.
Following the threats, authorities deployed fire tenders and security personnel at the locations named in the email. Security agencies have launched detailed checks and investigations to determine the credibility and source of the threat.
Officials said no suspicious object or other indication of an explosive device had been found at the locations so far.
Security has been placed on heightened alert across the capital ahead of the Independence Day celebrations.
