Liverpool have agreed a deal worth up to £123 million to sign Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint Germain.
PSG had initially valued the France forward at £145 million. But Liverpool have now reached an agreement for a lower amount.
The Reds will pay an initial £106 million. Another £17 million could follow in add ons.
Barcola is expected to undergo his medical this weekend. The 23 year old will then sign a long term contract at Anfield.
The Frenchman mainly plays on the left wing. He is right footed and can also operate on the right or through the middle.
His arrival could raise more questions about Cody Gakpo’s future at Liverpool.
Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City have both shown interest in the Netherlands international.
Liverpool are also looking for a right winger. They have explored possible moves for Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh and Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr.
Barcola became one of Liverpool’s main targets as the club looked to strengthen its attack.
The Reds have lost two major attacking players over the past two summers. Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah have both left the club.
Liverpool had made Barcola a priority after Yan Diomande chose to join Real Madrid earlier in the transfer window.
Barcola joined PSG from Lyon in 2023 for a reported £38.5 million.
He has enjoyed a successful spell in Paris.
The forward has won three Ligue 1 titles and two Champions League trophies. He has also won the French Cup twice, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.
Barcola also impressed for France at this summer’s World Cup. He scored three goals during the tournament.
His ability to play in several attacking positions could give Liverpool more options.
He could also provide cover for Alexander Isak while Hugo Ekitike recovers from a serious Achilles injury.
Barcola’s expected arrival could make Liverpool’s attack even stronger if Isak and Florian Wirtz can also find their best form.
Meanwhile, Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola has spoken about Gakpo’s future ahead of Saturday’s Premier League match against Nottingham Forest.
Iraola said he “cannot guarantee anything” about the 27 year old’s future but made it clear that he wants to keep him.
“[Gakpo] has been very good since he came back from the World Cup and his holiday, with a very good attitude. I hope we can keep him at that level because I think he has been very influential in our games,” Iraola said.
PSG could also benefit greatly from selling Barcola.
The French champions signed him for around £38 million three years ago. They could now receive more than three times that amount if all the add ons are paid.
Barcola also has only two years remaining on his PSG contract and has shown no desire to sign a new deal.
He was behind Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the battle for places on the wings during several of PSG’s biggest matches last season.
PSG have also strengthened those positions this summer by signing Maghnes Akliouche and Mika Godts.
Liverpool, meanwhile, had refused to meet PSG’s original £145 million asking price earlier in the summer.
They have now found an agreement that could bring one of Europe’s most highly rated young forwards to Anfield.
