Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das is facing uncertainty over his participation in the upcoming ODI series against the West Indies, as he continues to recover from a side strain injury.
Litton had already missed the Asia Cup matches against India and Pakistan due to the same injury, which later also ruled him out of the series against Afghanistan. Recovery from such an injury typically takes between one and a half to two weeks.
Although there were initial hopes that he would return for the West Indies ODIs, concerns have now emerged regarding his readiness. A source from the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s media department confirmed that Litton is scheduled to undergo an MRI scan on Tuesday to assess the progress of his recovery. His participation in the series will be determined after the scan results are reviewed.
The team management is also awaiting the outcome, as Litton has not yet resumed training. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the Mirpur training facilities. There are concerns over whether he will have sufficient time for match preparation, and the team is unwilling to take any risks with his fitness.
A BCB source told Cricfrenzy, “Litton’s muscle strain has improved. However, we will conduct another MRI before the ODI series. Only then will we make a final decision. We are not willing to take any risks with him.”
The injury occurred during training on 22 September, ahead of Bangladesh’s Asia Cup match against India. At the time, the team management said the injury was not serious, but it later proved to be more severe than initially believed.
The ODI series against the West Indies begins on 18 October, with the following matches scheduled for 21 and 23 October. A three-match T20I series will take place on 27, 29 and 31 October. The West Indies team is set to arrive in Bangladesh on 15 October.
