A total of 309 Bangladeshi nationals have returned home from Libya’s capital Tripoli. Their special chartered flight landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) around 9:30am on Friday.
According to sources, under the supervision of the Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli and with full support and coordination from Libya’s Government of National Unity, 309 Bangladeshis who voluntarily expressed their desire to return home were repatriated on Thursday.
This was the second chartered flight operated with assistance from the Libyan government, the Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli said. Earlier, on 9 October, another group of 309 Bangladeshis had been repatriated. Upon arrival, they shared their distressing experiences with family members and the media.
The embassy further mentioned all the returnees had previously applied to return home voluntarily. Subsequently, with support from the Libyan authorities, the embassy completed necessary documentation, secured exit clearance from local officials, and finalised all administrative procedures for their safe return.
The embassy also confirmed efforts are underway to repatriate another 300-plus registered Bangladeshis from Misrata and Tripoli on 30 October following the same process.
