The nomination of LDP candidate Yakub Ali has been cancelled in the Chattogram–12 constituency, covering Patiya, following scrutiny of nomination papers.
Chattogram Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mia announced the decision on Saturday after the scrutiny process at his conference room.
According to a report from Bangladesh Bank, he has been identified as a loan defaulter, which led to the cancellation of his nomination.
A total of eleven candidates submitted nomination papers in the constituency, including BNP-nominated candidate Enamul Haque and Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Faridul Alam.
During scrutiny, the nomination papers of the BNP and Jamaat candidates were declared valid.
