Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman has reiterated the government’s commitment to rooting out corruption from the judiciary, saying that no corrupt judicial system will be tolerated.
“We do not want to build a judiciary that is influenced by corruption. Those who cite the Mazdar Hossain case in the name of judicial independence should know that we are determined to remove all traces of corruption from its roots,” he said on Friday while speaking at a programme in Jashore.
The remarks came after the inauguration of the newly constructed building of the Jashore District Bar Association, followed by an exchange of views with members of the legal community.
The minister also criticised recent statements made by BNP leaders regarding the July Charter, the Human Rights Commission, and the proposed judicial secretariat. He said all legislative initiatives would be carefully examined and introduced through proper parliamentary procedures.
Referring to the July Charter, Asaduzzaman said the BNP “carries it in its ideology,” but added that there is no constitutional or legal basis for such presidential orders after 1973. Despite this, he claimed the party would ultimately be bound to implement it.
Earlier in the day, the minister visited Jashore and paid tribute at the grave of BNP Standing Committee member and former minister Tariqul Islam. He also inspected the old District Judge Court building and held discussions with bar association leaders.
The event was presided over by Jashore District Bar Association President Syed Saberul Haque Sabu. Special guests included State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit and BNP Vice Chairperson Professor Nargis Begum.
Senior lawyers, former bar leaders, and local dignitaries were also present at the programme.
