Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has directed the police and other law enforcement agencies to meet public expectations by regaining trust of the people.
Salahuddin issued these instructions on Thursday at the ministry’s conference room at Secretariat. Addressing the officials, he noted that this political government has been formed through a transparent election after nearly one and a half decades.
“Therefore, the people’s expectations from us are very high. We want to implement our election manifesto swiftly to meet those expectations,” he said.
Salahuddin emphasised that the government intends to carry out democratic reforms within the police and other law enforcement agencies in line with public aspirations, noting that the priorities for these reforms must be determined first.
He further said the government aims to gain public confidence by restructuring the institutions under the Ministry of Home Affairs and enhancing their ethical standards.
To achieve these objectives, Salahuddin highlighted the need for recruiting necessary manpower, which involves budget approvals from the Ministry of Finance.
He expressed his commitment to achieving these goals through new recruitment and the coordinated efforts of all stakeholders.
The home minister stressed that a proper plan is required for the modern and timely development of the police and other law enforcement agencies.
He directed the heads of the various departments and organisations to prepare suggestions and recommendations to assist in the formulation and implementation of such plans. These recommendations will serve as the basis for determining the priorities of the intended reforms.
The meeting was attended by Ministry of Home Affairs Secretary (Routine Charge) Md Delwar Hossain, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam BPM, as well as the heads of various departments, organisations, and relevant divisions of the Ministry.
