184 millimetres of rainfall was recorded in the past 24 hours until Wednesday morning 9:00am in Razarhat upazila of Kurigram, according to the Razarhat Weather Office.
Officials said the amount is considered extremely heavy rainfall. Rainfall continued till report time.
Continuous rainfall has disrupted daily life in Kurigram. Waterlogging has formed in several areas, causing severe hardship for residents.
Due to the nonstop rain, low-lying areas and rural roads across the district have gone under water. Water has also entered houses and farmland in several locations. Farmers have expressed concern over damage to vegetable fields. In many low-lying areas, paddy fields have also been submerged.
Farmer Rofiqul Islam from Char Kurigram area in Sadar upazila said he had cultivated two acres of land and was supposed to harvest paddy within a week. He said the overnight rain has submerged his entire field.
He added that without harvesting the crop, it will be impossible to manage his household expenses.
Meanwhile, the sky remained cloudy from the morning, and people avoided going outside unless necessary.
Daily wage earners and low-income workers have been the worst affected as normal activities remain disrupted due to the rain.
Kurigram Water Development Board Executive Engineer Rakibul Islam said heavy to extremely heavy rainfall may continue in the northern region due to upstream water flow and seasonal monsoon effects. He warned that river water levels may rise, with a risk of temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas.
