The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) formed an Election Commission on Wednesday, 13 May 2026, in Dhaka to oversee the Board of Directors election scheduled for 2026 under national sports regulations.
The commission includes Senior Advocate Ahsanul Karim as Chief Election Commissioner, Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Israil Hawlader as member, and National Sports Council official A. B. M. Ehsanul Mamun as the third member. The panel will manage all procedures linked to the election under applicable rules.
The commission arrives as the BCB continues its governance reset under an ad hoc structure led by former captain Tamim Iqbal. The National Sports Council dissolved the previous board led by Aminul Islam Bulbul on 7 April 2026, citing irregularities in the October 2025 election process.
An NSC-led investigation committee headed by former Justice AKM Asaduzzaman earlier flagged flaws across the electoral system. The findings triggered the removal of the previous board and the formation of an 11-member ad hoc committee.
Tamim Iqbal took charge on 8 April 2026 at the Mirpur headquarters and promised to hold free and fair elections within the three-month timeframe set by the NSC. He also pledged structural reforms across domestic cricket administration and staff management.
The Election Commission now takes responsibility for delivering that electoral process as Bangladesh cricket moves through a period of administrative transition.
