The government plans to introduce a more competitive tax regime, policy incentives and a simpler visa process to attract more foreign investment into Bangladesh’s technology sector, Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam said on Monday.
Speaking during a meeting with Republic of Korea Ambassador Kim Ji-joon at the Secretariat, the minister said the government was working to create a more reliable and investment-friendly environment for overseas investors.
He said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was committed to making smartphones and digital services more affordable and accessible across the country, including in remote areas, alongside expanding digital connectivity.
The minister described mobile phone manufacturing and the broader technology industry as national priority sectors, saying the government would continue providing policy support to expand local manufacturing, create jobs and strengthen technological capabilities.
He said the objective was to position Bangladesh as a regional hub for smart device manufacturing and technology investment.
During the meeting, Ambassador Kim proposed a longer-term and more streamlined visa regime for foreign investors, saying it would strengthen Bangladesh’s investment climate and help attract more foreign direct investment.
In response, the minister said the government was working to simplify visa procedures for foreign investors and businesspeople through policy reforms aimed at making investment and business operations easier.
Both sides expressed optimism about expanding bilateral cooperation and pursuing joint initiatives in areas of mutual interest.
