Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman arrived in the Maldives on Saturday for an official visit aimed at further strengthening the long-standing and friendly relations between the two countries.
The Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the visit as a “significant milestone” in bilateral ties, saying it would help pave the way for greater cooperation in the coming years.
“The visit sets the stage for enhanced cooperation in the years ahead,” the ministry said.
Khalilur was welcomed upon arrival by Maldives Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam and senior officials of the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Bangladesh foreign minister is visiting the Maldives from 25 to 27 July as a special guest of the Maldivian government to attend celebrations marking the 61st anniversary of the country’s independence.
Khalilur reached the Maldives via Doha after completing a visit to Manila, Philippines, a senior official said.
During his stay, the foreign minister is scheduled to hold a courtesy meeting with Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu and meet Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam.
The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening the bilateral partnership, reviewing existing areas of cooperation and exploring new opportunities for collaboration in sectors of mutual interest.
The two sides will also exchange views on regional and global issues and reaffirm their commitment to continued cooperation in regional and multilateral platforms.
This marks Khalilur Rahman’s first official visit to the Maldives since he took charge as Bangladesh’s foreign minister on 17 February , 2026.
