There has been no improvement in the physical condition of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka.
The medical board formed for her treatment has informed that several complications have been detected in her health through various tests and examinations over the past few days, stating that she is currently being treated under ventilation in critical condition.
This information was provided in a notice signed by the medical board’s chairman, Professor Dr Shahabuddin Talukder of Evercare Hospital, on Thursday.
It stated that at one stage of her treatment, Khaleda Zia’s breathing difficulties increased, the oxygen level in her blood decreased, and the carbon dioxide level rose. Due to this, she was treated with high-flow nasal cannula and BiPAP machines. However, as there was no improvement in her condition, she was put on elective ventilator support to give her lungs and other organs rest.
Earlier, on 27 November, she was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis, the intensive treatment for which is still ongoing.
Doctors have also informed that as Khaleda Zia has a severe infection in her body, for which she is being treated with high doses of antibiotics and antifungals.
These details were provided after the latest meeting of the local and foreign medical board working on the treatment of the BNP chairperson.
Doctors said that since her kidney function has ceased, she was undergoing dialysis, which is being continued regularly.
Additionally, due to gastrointestinal bleeding and DIC issues, blood and various blood components are being transfused into her body.
Despite all these treatments, as her fever did not subside and some issues were observed in the aortic valve during regular echocardiography, a TEE test was conducted. This test detected infective endocarditis. Treatment began immediately following the advice of the medical board.
The notice mentioned that Khaleda Zia’s treatment is being administered while her physical condition is being monitored closely, and the people of the country were requested to have faith in the medical board and refrain from making assumptions or spreading misinformation.
The notice stated, “Our medical team is continuing her treatment with the utmost professionalism, caution, and sincerity. On behalf of the medical board and the family of the respected former prime minister Khaleda Zia, everyone is humbly requested to pray for her.”
