BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed on Friday said Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty remained protected because of the leadership of Begum Khaleda Zia.
He made the remarks while inaugurating a photo exhibition on the late BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia at Justice Shahabuddin Park in Gulshan.
The exhibition has been organized by the Bogura Media and Cultural Forum, Dhaka, and will remain open for the next two days.
Speaking as the chief guest, Rizvi alleged that a power plant project supplying electricity from Jharkhand in India had earlier been cancelled by India’s own Planning Ministry. However, he claimed that during what he described as a “fascist period,” the same project was imposed on Bangladesh through the Rampal power plant.
Rizvi further said that Begum Khaleda Zia never agreed to carry out such “anti-national projects,” which, he alleged, led to her imprisonment. He claimed that there had been deliberate attempts to deny her proper medical treatment with the intention of causing her suffering.
He also warned that regional and global powers continue to conspire to gain control over Bangladesh’s remaining coal and gas resources.
The event was presided over by Marufa Rahman, president of the Bogura Media and Cultural Forum, with Sujon Mahmud, its general secretary, conducting the proceedings. Among others present were the forum’s chief adviser Atiqur Rahman and Daily Karatoa Editor Helaluzzaman Lalu.
