Harry Kane signed off another stunning Bundesliga season with a hat-trick as Bayern Munich crushed Cologne 5 to 1 on Saturday to celebrate their title in style.
The England captain struck early in Munich and never looked back. Kane opened the scoring with a volley after 10 minutes. He added his second from a free kick just three minutes later. He then completed his hat-trick with a long range finish in the 69th minute.
Kane ended the league season with 36 goals. He also made Bundesliga history by becoming the first player to finish as the league’s top scorer in each of his first three seasons in Germany.
Bayern dominated from the start but Cologne briefly threatened when Said El Mala scored in the 18th minute. Tom Bischof quickly restored Bayern’s two goal lead four minutes later. Nicolas Jackson added another late goal to complete the rout.
Bayern finished the campaign with 89 points from 34 matches. They also scored a record breaking 122 league goals, beating their previous best of 101 set in the 1971 72 season.
Michael Olise also enjoyed a huge day after being named Bundesliga player of the season. The France star scored 15 goals and provided 19 assists during a brilliant campaign.
“It has been incredible to be honest,” Olise said. “We had a good season. I think we improved from last season. I am just proud to be part of the team.”
Club legend Leon Goretzka lifted the Bundesliga trophy after captain Manuel Neuer handed him the honor. Bayern’s title celebrations will continue with fans in central Munich on Sunday.
Neuer, who recently extended his contract, came off after an hour as a precaution with a minor calf issue.
Borussia Dortmund finished second, while RB Leipzig and Stuttgart also secured Champions League places.
At the bottom, St Pauli and Heidenheim were relegated. Wolfsburg will now face a playoff to try and stay in the top flight.
