A judge was killed and his driver critically injured when their car crashed into a stationary truck on Jamalpur-Mymensingh highway early Monday.
The deceased, AKM Samiul Haque, 27, was serving as a judge at the Jamalpur District and Sessions Judge Court.
Jamalpur Police Station Officer-in-charge Nazmus Sakib confirmed the matter.
The incident took place around 5am in Lahirikanda area when Samiul was returning to Jamalpur from Lalmatia in Dhaka.
His car rammed into the rear of a truck loaded with iron rods that had been left on the highway after one of its tyres was punctured.
Police said the truck’s driver and helper were asleep inside the vehicle when the crash occurred. The car driver, Idris Ali, 46, was injured and admitted to Jamalpur General Hospital.
Police and fire service personnel recovered Samiul’s body from the scene.
OC Nazmus added, the body was handed over to Samiul’s family without an autopsy following a formal request from his relatives.
