A leader of Jubo Dal, the youth wing of the BNP, was seriously injured in a gun attack in Kotwali area of the capital on Friday night.
The victim, 31-year-old Russell, was targeted by unidentified assailants near Nayabazar Park around 8:45pm.
According to his friend Ripon Das, the attackers opened fire on Russell, hitting him in the left side of his chest, before fleeing the scene.
Russell, a member of the Kotwali Thana unit of Jubo Dal, was immediately rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for initial treatment.
However, due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to a private hospital in Dhanmondi for further care. Medical sources have confirmed that his condition remains critical.
Russell’s father, Mohammad Ali, stated that the family resides in the Arsing Gate area of Shyampur.
Officials at the Dhaka Medical Police Camp confirmed that Russell was admitted to the hospital with gunshot wounds and later transferred for advanced treatment. Investigations into the shooting are currently underway, but no arrests have been made as of yet.
The incident has sparked concern over political violence in the city, as authorities continue their efforts to identify the perpetrators.
