A Jubo Dal activist was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Raozan Upazila of Chattogram on Monday night.
The deceased, identified as 50-year-old Nasir Uddin, also known as Madhu Nasir, was an active worker of the Jubo Dal. He was the son of Dudu Mia, hailing from South Shamshernagar village in Ward 6 of Kodolpur Union.
According to police and local sources, a group of armed assailants opened fire indiscriminately at Nasir around 9pm on Monday in the Ishan Bhatter Hat area of Kodolpur Union. As locals rushed to the spot upon hearing the gunshots, the attackers fled the scene.
Several empty bullet casings were later recovered from the site.
Nasir was rescued in critical condition and transported to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where the attending physician at Ward No. 2 pronounced him dead at approximately 11:30 pm.
Saber Sultan, vice-president of Chattogram North District Jubo Dal, alleged that Nasir was the victim of a “planned murder.”
However, Raozan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Sajedul Islam said Nasir was an accused in at least six criminal cases, including murder. He confirmed that police have initiated an investigation into the killing and are working to identify those involved.
The incident has triggered intense tension and panic across the upazila, following a similar occurrence last Friday night where an expatriate BNP supporter was shot dead in Ward 9 of Raozan.
