Jahangirnagar University (JU) has observed International Mother Language Day with due dignity and profound respect.

In the first hour of Ekushey, Vice-Chancellor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan paid tribute to the language heroes by placing a wreath at the university’s central Shaheed Minar.

Prior to the wreath-laying, the vice-chancellor hoisted Ekushey flag at the foot of monument, while Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman hoisted the university flag.

Along with other teachers, officers, employees, and students, were also present.

Following the vice-chancellor’s tribute, several organisations and wings placed wreaths in succession.

To mark the occasion, the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) organised a cultural programme at Shaheed Minar in the evening.

National flags were kept at half-mast at the Shaheed Minar, administrative buildings, and all residential halls.

The university administration further announced the arrangement of a painting competition for children to celebrate International Mother Language Day.
