Jahangirnagar University (JU) has initiated formal preparations to conduct first-year undergraduate (honours) admission tests in divisional cities starting from 2026-2027 academic session.
As part of this transition, the university administration has constituted four separate sub-committees to gather data and practical experience from four other divisional universities.
The decision was communicated through an office order issued on Wednesday, signed by Syed Mohammad Ali Reza, deputy registrar (academic) and member secretary of Central Admission Management Committee.
According to order, sub-committees will evaluate potential framework, management systems, and examination procedures at Chittagong University (CU), Rajshahi University (RU), Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), and Khulna University (KU).
The sub-committee for Chittagong University includes JU pro-vice chancellor (academic), director of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA-JU), and director of the Institute of Information Technology (IIT).
The Rajshahi University team comprises the pro-vice chancellor (administration), dean of Faculty of Biological Sciences, director of Institute of Comparative Literature and Culture (ICLC), and controller of Examinations.
For Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, the committee consists of university treasurer, dean of Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, and dean of Faculty of Business Studies.
The Khulna University sub-committee includes dean of Faculty of Arts and Humanities, dean of Faculty of Social Sciences, and dean of Faculty of Law.
To facilitate data collection process, a sample questionnaire has been provided to the sub-committees. The members have been directed to coordinate with their respective counterpart universities and submit their findings within 15 working days.
This move follows a prior announcement by JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan.
During the inspection of 2025-2026 admission tests, Kamrul informed journalists of the administration’s plan to decentralise the examination process starting from the 2026-2027 academic year.
The formation of these sub-committees marks the commencement of the preparatory phase to implement that commitment.
