Police have arrested Jiten Barua, the Khagrachari staff reporter for Somoy TV and district correspondent for Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).
The journalist was apprehended from the town’s Shapla Chattar area around 7pm on Thursday.
According to sources at the Khagrachari Sadar Police Station, the journalist is a named accused in five cases filed at various stations, including the Sadar police station, after 5 August, 2024.
Confirming the arrest, Md Kai Kislu, officer-in-charge (OC) of Khagrachari Sadar Police Station, said, “Jiten Barua is an accused in five registered cases.”
He also said that there are additional cases filed against him, though details were not specified.
