Four journalist organisations have condemned allegations that actress Pori Moni verbally abused and threatened a multimedia reporter, while her security guards allegedly assaulted journalists on court premises.

The Multimedia Reporters Association (MRA), Multimedia Reporters Unity (MRU), Digital Reporters Forum (DRF) and Youth Journal issued separate statements on Friday over the incident involving MRA member Robiul Hossain Raju.

In its statement, MRA said video footage showed Pori Moni allegedly directing abusive remarks and threats at Raju. The organisation also alleged that her bodyguards attacked several journalists, leaving some injured. MRA President Fakhrul Islam said such behaviour undermined journalists’ professional dignity and press freedom.

DRF also condemned what it described as the obstruction and harassment of journalists. The organisation expressed concern over reports that several court visitors were also injured during the incident. It called for an impartial investigation into the allegations against the actress and her security personnel, as well as the role of law enforcement officers present at the scene.

Meanwhile, MRU demanded a thorough investigation, proper medical treatment and security for the injured journalists, along with legal action against those found responsible.

Youth Journal also called for an impartial inquiry, stressing that any allegations against a journalist should be verified before the individual is subjected to public humiliation or accusations.
