Naima Khandaker, social worker and daughter-in-law of Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, member of the BNP standing committee and lawmaker for Cumilla-1 (Daudkandi and Meghna), has expressed concern regarding her security in a Facebook post.

Making the post on Friday night, she also mentioned not receiving legal assistance from the police, although police said that no written complaint has been filed at the police station in this regard.

Naima Khandaker serves as executive director and secretary of J Huda Welfare Society, as well as joint general secretary of the National Women’s Sports Association, Cumilla district branch.

At the beginning of the Facebook post, she wrote, “Where is my security? As a woman, to whom will I seek justice today?”

She expressed that she was drawing the attention of the people of Daudkandi from all walks of life, conscious citizens of the country, the government, and the administration concerned with a heavy heart.

She noted that major harm, including loss of life, could be caused to her at any time, as she is being threatened from several Facebook IDs in Daudkandi at the instigation of an influential quarter.

Naima wrote that her husband, Khandaker Mahbub Hossain Tushar, is currently abroad with her father-in-law Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain for medical treatment.

She added that taking advantage of their absence abroad, while she is staying completely alone at her residence during such a sensitive and difficult time, threats to kill her, defamatory propaganda on social media, and harassment are being directed at her from various Facebook IDs.

She further claimed in the post that despite complaining to the officer-in-charge of Daudkandi Police Station over these incidents for the past 20 days, she is not getting any effective remedy.

When asked about the matter, Naima Khandaker said: “If I, despite being the daughter-in-law of a political family, face such harassment and propaganda in my own area, where is the security of girls from ordinary families?

“I do not want any additional privilege just because of my father-in-law Khandaker Mosharraf and husband Mahbub Hossain Tushar; I only want respect, security, and justice as an ordinary citizen. I have requested the police to trace out at whose instigation such propaganda and threats are being issued from Facebook IDs.”

On Saturday, Daudkandi Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Sazedul Islam said he was unaware of whether anything like that happened to Naima Khandaker.

He noted that if anything occurred, it might have been in Dhaka because she does not reside in the area, adding that he has never seen her in Daudkandi.
