Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty has insisted her team will treat their upcoming match against England like any other, saying the Tigresses are focused on playing their best cricket rather than being intimidated by their opponent’s reputation.
Bangladesh, who began their Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 campaign with a commanding seven-wicket win over Pakistan, will face England on 7 October in Guwahati at 3:30 pm (BST).
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Joty said,
“We played against England in the T20 World Cup and also in 2022. We’ve looked at some stats and done our homework, but we don’t want to approach this as an England match. We want to treat it as just another game and focus on our performance.”
She added,
“Every match is important in its own way. We just want to play our best cricket. The win against Pakistan has boosted our confidence, and we want to carry that momentum into this game.”
Bangladesh have faced England only once in ODIs, in the previous World Cup, where they suffered a 100-run defeat. In T20Is, the Tigresses have lost all four meetings against the English side.
England, meanwhile, also made a strong start to their campaign, thrashing South Africa by 10 wickets in their opening match in Guwahati. They bowled out the Proteas for just 69 before chasing the target in only 85 balls.
