Jamalpur journalist’s hanging body recovered from home

The body of a journalist named Osman Haruni (43) was found hanging in Islampur Upazila of Jamalpur. Police recovered the body from his home in Polabanda Bhati Para area on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased, Osman Haruni, was serving as the Jamalpur district correspondent for Mohona Television and the Upazila correspondent for the newspapers Khola Kagoj and Amar Desh. He was the son of the late Abu Taleb from the Polabanda Bhati Para area.

His family stated that around 1pm, Osman Haruni went from the main house to the adjacent tin-shed room, where he often worked on news-related tasks. Shortly after, the wife of the deceased’s younger brother went into the room and found him hanging.

Hearing her screams, the victim’s wife and other relatives rushed in and brought the body down.

As the news spread, police and local journalists arrived at the scene. The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Islampur Police Station, ASM Atiqur Rahman, said, “We have inspected the scene. Since the family did not file any complaint, the body has been handed over for burial.

“Preliminary investigation suggests he may have died by suicide due to mental stress and physical illness.”
