Jamal Hossain Mollah stands on the brink of a landmark victory in India. The Bangladeshi golfer finished the third round of the Telangana Golconda Masters in Hyderabad on Thursday with a superb score of 23 under par, keeping his name firmly at the top of the leaderboard.
Jamal has been in commanding form all week. After seizing control with a dazzling nine under in the opening round, he backed it up with another brilliant display on Wednesday, carding eight under to stay clear of the chasing pack. His second round included six birdies and a memorable eagle on the par-four 15th, where he needed just two shots to find the cup. Remarkably, he had already birdied that same hole in the first round, making it a favourite spot in his tournament run.
India’s Akshay Sharma remains his closest challenger. Sharma closed the second round on 14 under par, three strokes behind Jamal, and has struggled to keep pace with the consistency of the Bangladeshi leader. He finished the third round on 19 under par.
By Thursday evening, Jamal had stretched his advantage further. His three-round tally now puts him within touching distance of the title, and with only one round left to play, the 39-year-old is eyeing a career-defining triumph on the PGTI circuit.
For Bangladesh golf, Jamal’s performance is another reminder of his quality and resilience. He has long been the country’s flagbearer in the sport, and in Hyderabad he is once again proving why. From his early charge on day one to his calm control in round three, Jamal has looked every bit a champion in waiting.
