Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has said that the party would never accept domination from any external forces over Bangladesh, emphasising that the young generation of the country would not tolerate such interference.
Addressing a crowd at a food distribution event organised with assistance from China on Tuesday, Shafiqur Rahman stated, “Our youth will not accept this at all. They want to live proudly, with their heads held high. They aim to demonstrate to the world that they are proud of being Bangladeshi.”
The event took place at the Adarsh High School grounds in Mirpur, Dhaka, where food packages were distributed to those in need.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen was also present at the event.
Shafiqur Rahman emphasized the longstanding and friendly relationship between Bangladesh and China. Reflecting on 50 years of diplomatic ties since Bangladesh’s formal recognition in 1975, he noted that China has remained one of Bangladesh’s largest development partners over the years.
In his speech, Rahman also addressed the recent Eid gift from the Chinese government, expressing disappointment over how the gesture of friendship had been mishandled during the previous “fascist regime.”
He criticised the act of obscuring China’s contributions and labeled it as “extreme ingratitude.” He stated, “A country gave us a gift out of love, yet their names and symbols were mixed up,” referring to the mishandling of the gift.
Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen expressed his pleasure in attending the event and reiterated China’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh.
“We have brought gifts for your upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations,” he said, emphasizing China’s desire to continue strengthening ties with Bangladesh.
Ambassador Yao also praised Shafiqur Rahman’s role as the opposition leader in the Parliament and affirmed that Jamaat-e-Islami would play a key role in supporting China’s development projects in Bangladesh in the future.
He concluded, “We want to move forward together, believing that the Muslim brothers and sisters of Bangladesh will be partners in building a new, prosperous Bangladesh.”
The event underscored the ongoing diplomatic and development cooperation between Bangladesh and China, with both sides expressing hopes for continued partnership and progress.
