A local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed on Friday morning after a microbus struck his motorcycle on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Sitakunda of Chattogram.

The deceased, identified as Md Mohiuddin, 45, was the General Secretary of Bhatiari Union Ward no.5 unit of Jamaat-e-Islami. A resident of the Bhatiari Station Road West area, he was the son of Haji Nesar Ahmed.

Alongside his political responsibilities, he was a local businessman.

The accident occurred around 10am on Friday in the Madambibirhat area of Bhatiari Union.

According to local sources and witnesses, Mohiuddin was travelling to his business establishment on his motorcycle. The incident occurred when a moving truck ahead suddenly applied brakes, forcing Mohiuddin to slow down.

At that moment, a Hiace microbus approaching from behind reportedly lost control and crashed into his motorcycle, pushing it into the rear of the truck and leaving him trapped between the two vehicles.

He sustained critical injuries in the collision.

Locals rushed to the scene and rescued him before taking him to BSBA Hospital for initial treatment.

As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for advanced treatment, where the attending physician pronounced him dead.

Upazila Jamaat Assistant Secretary Kutubuddin Shibli noted that Mohiuddin had long been involved in the old ship cable business in addition to his organisational duties.

Bar Aulia Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Adil Rahman confirmed the accident. He added that legal proceedings related to the incident are currently underway.
