Jamaat-e-Islami hosted an Iftar party in honour of foreign diplomats stationed in Dhaka on Saturday. The event was held at the LD Hall of the National Parliament Building.
The programme was presided over by the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Leader of the Opposition in the National Parliament, Dr Shafiqur Rahman MP.
The Iftar was attended by ambassadors and representatives from a wide range of nations, including the United Kingdom, United States, China, Russia, Palestine, Canada, India, Turkey, France, Germany, Italy, Pakistan, and the European Union.
Other participating countries included Singapore, Malaysia, Vatican City, Iran, Brunei Darussalam, Maldives, Algeria, Kosovo, Egypt, Vietnam, Myanmar, Indonesia, Australia, Norway, Nepal, the Philippines, the Netherlands, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Switzerland, and South Korea.
Representatives from various international organisations, such as UNDP, UNHCR, UNICEF, UNODC, Democracy International, and IOM, were also in attendance.
In his address, Shafiqur Rahman expressed his gratitude to the diplomats, international representatives, and guests.
He stated that Bangladesh aspires to build more positive and balanced relationships with the global community based on mutual respect, cooperation, and constructive engagement.
The ameer further expressed his hope that ties between Bangladesh and the international community would be further bolstered in the coming days, grounded in mutual understanding, justice-based positions, and humanitarian values.
The event was also attended by senior Jamaat leaders, including Nayeb-e-Ameer Mujibur Rahman MP, Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar, and Assistant Secretaries General ATM Ma’sum and Muayazzam Hossain Helal.
Other notable attendees included Rafiqul Islam Khan MP, Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer, Central Executive Council members Md Nurul Islam Bulbul MP, Mohammad Selim Uddin, and Abdur Rob, as well as Dr Shafiqul Islam Masud MP, Zahidur Rahman, and Advocate Mohammad Shishir Monir.
Distinguished local diplomats and eminent personalities also joined the gathering.
