Jamaat-e-Islami and seven like-minded parties have announced a new programme demanding the implementation of the July Charter, the holding of a referendum and national election on separate days, and the reinstatement of the revised Representation of the People Order (RPO).
As part of the programme, the political parties will organise a mass procession in the capital on 6 November, during which a memorandum will be submitted to the Chief Adviser.
A public rally will also be held on 11 November.
The announcement came on Monday at a press conference held at the central office of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis in Dhaka’s Paltan area. Prior to the briefing, top leaders of the eight parties met to finalise the schedule.
Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque formally announced the programme.
During the press briefing, Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher said it remains unclear what the BNP truly wants. “It is crucial to know their exact stance,” he said, adding that while political parties can make decisions through discussion, “a fair referee must be present and that referee should be the Chief Adviser.”
Meanwhile, Islami Andolan Bangladesh Ameer Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, popularly known as Charmonai Pir, urged the parties supporting the July Movement to sit together without delay to find a resolution to the ongoing political crisis.
The eight like-minded parties are Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, Khelafat Majlis, Nizam-e-Islam Party, Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan, Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA) and Bangladesh Development Party (BDP).
