Seven political parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Andolan Bangladesh, separately staged demonstrations across the country on Friday to press home their five-point demands, including holding of the upcoming national election under the July Charter.
Senior leaders of the parties led the demonstrations in many district towns and upazilas, party sources said.
Five other parties are Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, Bangladesh Nezame Islam Party, Khelafat Majlish, Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan, and Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA).
Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar addressed a rally in Dumuria upazila of Khulna. Jamaat Senior Nayeb-e-Ameer Professor Mujibur Rahman joined a rally at Godagari in Rajshahi, while Assistant Secretary General Ehsanul Mahbub Zobair participated in a rally in Moulvibazar.
Islami Andolan organised similar protest programmes in most districts and upazilas to meet the same demands. Islami Andolan Nayeb-e-Ameer Mufti Syed Faizul Karim led a rally in Dhaka.
However, five other parties staged demonstrations in some places of the country.
The five-point demands include conducting the general election under the July Charter, introducing a proportional representation (PR) system, ensuring equal opportunities for all contesting parties, bringing visible justice for oppression, atrocities, mass killings, and corruption and banning the political activities of Jatiya Party and the 14-party alliance for supporting the autocratic Awami League-led government’s regime.
Earlier, the parties staged similar protest rallies on 18 September in Dhaka and 19 September in all divisional cities to press for their demands.
