A student was killed and a pedestrian injured in a motorcycle accident in Dhaka’s Fakirapool area Monday night.
The deceased was Arafat Rahman Shawon, 23, a student of Independent University, Bangladesh. The injured pedestrian is Md Shahjahan Mia, 50.
The accident occurred around 11:15pm in front of Rahmania Hotel.
His mother Sultana Akter told UNB, her son was preparing to pursue higher studies in Australia and his flight to Australia was scheduled for June 30.
“He went out on a motorcycle with friends to watch a football match at night. While passing through Fakirapool, a pedestrian was crossing the road when the motorcycle collided with him around 12 am. The pedestrian was injured, and my son suffered severe injuries to his head, face, and other parts of his body,” she said.
They were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Shawon dead around midnight, said Inspector Md Faruk, in‑charge of the DMCH Police Camp.
He added, Shawon’s body is in the morgue for autopsy. Motijheel Police Station has been informed to investigate.
Shahjahan is receiving treatment at the emergency department.
