The Department of Accounting at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has launched ‘Career Bridge: Alumni and Mentorship Initiatives’, a three-month programme designed to connect students with alumni and industry professionals.
The initiative, which is the first of its kind in Bangladesh, commenced on 30 June with an inaugural cohort comprising six mentors and 22 selected students.
The programme aims to provide students with career guidance, professional networking opportunities, industry insights, and skill development through direct engagement with established industry leaders, read a press release.
Dean of the School of Business and Entrepreneurship (SBE) Dr Raisul Awal Mahmood delivered the keynote address, highlighting the vital role mentorship plays in both personal and professional development.
An instructor at McGill University, Canada, Rima Hindo also spoke at the event, emphasising the importance of professional networks and alumni engagement.
The inaugural cohort is supported by a panel of prominent professionals, including General Manager (Finance) of Eskayef Pharmaceuticals Ltd Mashkawat Hasan Pavel, Partner of Ahmed Sheikh Roy & Co Sheikh Tareq Zahir, Head of Treasury of IDLC Finance PLC Nurul Karim Patwary, Associate Director of Coats Global Readud Sajiad, Head of Merchant Business of City Bank PLC Julfikar Al Nahian, and Co-founder and Managing Partner of M. Rashid Zaman & Co Md. Kamruzzaman.
During the session, the mentors shared their professional perspectives on leadership, career planning, industry expectations, and contemporary professional practice.
The event was moderated by Senior Lecturer of Accounting at IUB Naveed Adnan Siddiquee, who outlined the core objectives of the initiative. The proceedings also included the formal announcement of mentor-mentee pairings, which were determined through the department’s selection process.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Head of the Department of Accounting Dr Maqbool Kader Quraishi. The launch was attended by faculty members of the Department of Accounting and heads of various departments under the School of Business and Entrepreneurship.
