Inter‑Services Public Relations (ISPR) has officially released identities of the six Bangladeshi peacekeepers who were killed in a drone attack on a United Nations mission facility in Sudan.
The fatal incident occurred on Saturday at the Kadugli logistics base located in Abyei region, claiming the lives of six Bangladeshi peacekeepers and leaving eight others wounded.
An ISPR press release detailed that a separatist armed faction carried out the attack between 3:40pm and 3:50pm local time while the peacekeepers were discharging their duties at the UN compound.
The six are Corporal Md Masud Rana, ASC (Natore); Sainik Md Mominul Islam, Bir (Kurigram); Sainik Shamim Reza, Bir (Rajbari); Sainik Shanta Mondal, Bir (Kurigram); Mess Waiter Mohammad Jahangir Alam (Kishoreganj); and Laundry employee Md Sabuj Mia (Gaibandha).
Those injured in the attack are Lieutenant Colonel Khondaker Khalekuzzaman, PSC, Ordnance (Kushtia); Sergeant Md Mostakim Hossain, Bir (Dinajpur); Corporal Afroza Parvin Eti, Signals (Dhaka); Lance Corporal Mohibul Islam, EME (Barguna); Sainik Md Mezbaul Kabir, Bir (Kurigram); Sainik Umme Hani Akter, Engineers (Rangpur); Sainik Chumki Akter, Ordnance (Manikganj); and Sainik Md Manazir Ahsan, Bir (Noakhali).
According to the release, all eight injured personnel are undergoing requisite medical care. Among them, Sainik Md Mezbaul Kabir, whose condition was initially critical, has successfully undergone surgery and is currently under intensive monitoring.
The other seven injured peacekeepers have been airlifted via helicopter to receive advanced medical attention and are now reported to be out of danger.
In its statement, the Bangladesh Army issued a firm condemnation of what it termed a “brutal terrorist attack,” asserting that the supreme sacrifice of the fallen peacekeepers will stand as a proud testament to Bangladesh’s unwavering commitment to global peace.
The army further conveyed profound sympathies to the grieving families of the deceased and extended heartfelt wishes for a swift and complete recovery to the injured.
