Islamic University, Kushtia has awarded the Doctor of Philosophy degree to Md Ahsan Habib from the Department of English, marking a new addition to the country’s postcolonial literary scholarship.
The degree was approved at the university’s 272nd Syndicate Meeting held recently, according to the academic record of the institution.
Md Ahsan Habib completed his doctoral research on the thesis titled Identity and Multiculturalism in Postcolonial Society: A Critical Study of the Selected Novels of Khushwant Singh. The research examines questions of identity formation, cultural plurality and postcolonial tensions through a close reading of Singh’s major fictional works, contributing to contemporary debates in postcolonial literary studies.
The research was conducted under the supervision of Md Meher Ali, Professor of the Department of English at Islamic University. The study offers a critical analysis of identity crises and multicultural dynamics in postcolonial societies, situating Singh’s novels within broader theoretical frameworks.
Md Ahsan Habib is currently associated with the Bangladesh Technical Education Board, where he works alongside his academic responsibilities. He expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah, his doctoral supervisor, teachers at various stages of his academic life, colleagues at the Bangladesh Technical Education Board and his family members for their continued support throughout the research process.
He is the elder son of Iman Ali and Sufia Begum and said he intends to continue contributing to literary research and higher education in the coming years.
