Islami Chhatra Andolan Bangladesh staged a protest rally at Baitul Mukarram Mosque on Friday, demanding justice for the brutal killing of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
Hadi, who was also a prospective candidate for Dhaka 8 constituency, died on 15 December while receiving medical treatment at Singapore General Hospital, following a six-day struggle for his life.
Islami Chhatra Andolan leaders alleged that victims of the July movement have not received justice yet.
They warned that any attempt to portray the killing of the Swechchhasebak Dal Secretary Azizur Rahman Musabbir at Karwan Bazar as an “isolated incident” would see those responsible labeled as “agents of India.”
Saif Mohammad Alauddin, general secretary of the Dhaka University unit, said, “Even after 54 years of independence, successive governments had prioritised India’s interests over Bangladesh’s sovereignty.”
He expressed concern that three to four weeks after the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi, no responsible government official had assured justice.
Alauddin added, “The organisation had little confidence in the submitted charge sheet and vowed to continue their struggle against Indian hegemony.”
Imran Hossain Noor, central vice-president, said Bangladesh had not been freed from Indian dominance even after 54 years. He alleged that “agents of Delhi” were responsible for the killing of BUET student Abrar Fahad.
Noor added that pro-Bangladesh voices are being attacked for speaking out against border killings and unequal water-sharing agreements.
He warned the interim government saying, “A 16-year autocracy was overthrown, the current administration would also be removed if justice was denied.”
Muntasir Ahmad, Central president, recalled the killings of Felani in 2011 and Abrar Fahad at BUET. He demanded the resignation of the home affairs adviser for failing to arrest the killers of Sharif Osman Hadi even a month after the incident.
Expressing solidarity with Inqilab Moncho’s “March for Justice” programme, he announced that the organisation would remain on the streets until justice for Hadi is ensured.
