The Government of West Bengal announced the recipients of this year’s Banga Samman awards on International Mother Language Day, recognising prominent figures from the fields of music, cinema and the arts.
A number of distinguished personalities were conferred the state’s highest cultural honours, Banga Bibhushan and Banga Bhushan, on February 21. Among the notable awardees, actor Parambrata Chatterjee received the Banga Bhushan for his contribution to cinema.
The prestigious Banga Bibhushan was awarded to acclaimed musicians Nachiketa Chakraborty, Shibaji Chattopadhyay, Sreeradha Bandyopadhyay, Iman Chakraborty and Lopamudra Mitra for their outstanding contribution to music. Singer and politician Babul Supriyo was also among the recipients. The honour additionally recognised painter Ganesh Haloi and poet Srijato Bandyopadhyay for their achievements in the visual arts and literature.
Alongside Parambrata Chatterjee, the Banga Bhushan was presented to singers Manomay Bhattacharya, Raghab Chatterjee and Rupankar Bagchi. Folk artist Kartik Das Baul and singer Aditi Munshi were also honoured with the same award.
The Banga Samman awards are presented annually by the West Bengal government to acknowledge individuals who have made significant contributions to cultural and artistic life.
