Chief adviser Muhammad Yunus on Sunday will have a meeting with eight political parties who were involved with July uprising. In his official residence, Jamuna, Yunus is likely to review current state of socio-political situation of the country.
Sources said at least one representative from eight political parties and organisations will join the meeting. The pro July uprising parties invited are : Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Gono Odhikar Parishad, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Khelafat Majlish, and Nezam-e-Islami Party.
Amar Bangladesh (AB) party chairman Mojibur Rahman Monju has confirmed the invitation. “One adviser called me up and shared that all party meeting is scheduled on Sunday afternoon at around 5 pm and am I available for the meeting,” Monju said.
Meanwhile, BNP, Jamaat-E-Islami, Bangladesh and National Citizen Party (NCP) have met with Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus last evening at state guest house Jamuna. BNP has reiterated its demand for election by December 2025 and removal of three interim advisers including national security adviser Khalilur Rahman.
“It is possible to hold the election even before December,” said BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed to the waiting journalists after coming out of the meeting with CA in Jamuna. He added, “We specifically called for the resignation of the National Security Adviser and two advisers involved with student affairs.”
Jamaat ameer Shafiqur Rahman told reporters that the ongoing political crisis could be over by announcing two roadmaps, one for election and another one for state-initiated reforms. NCP convenor Nahid Islam said NCP wants announcement of July charter within 30 days along with announcement of trial of the July uprising killings, reforms and local government bodies elections before the national elections.
Meanwhile, Chief adviser’s press secretary Shafiqul Alam in a briefing said all leaders of BNP Jamaat and NCP have expressed support for the initiatives taken by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus.
Shafiqul Alam said all three groups have expressed their confidence in the leadership of Muhammad Yunus. He said all three parties want a free and fair election under leadership of Muhammad Yunus. Press secretary said the Chief adviser has shared with all three parties that election would be held within December to June 2026. He shared with the BNP delegation that June 2026 is the cut off time.
