The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued a cautionary notice regarding fake accounts and pages created on social media platforms using the name of Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon.
In a press release dispatched by the ministry on Thursday, it was clarified for public awareness that the Information and Broadcasting Minister possesses only one verified Facebook account, marked with a blue badge.
The ministry emphasised that the minister has no involvement with, nor has he provided authorisation for, any other Facebook accounts or pages appearing in his name.
The official statement noted with concern that multiple fraudulent Facebook accounts and pages are currently being operated by misappropriating the minister’s name, identity, and photographs.
These fake platforms are reportedly disseminating unauthorised statements, misleading information, and various contents, actions which the ministry has condemned as entirely illegal and unethical.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has urged the public and all relevant stakeholders to disregard any content shared via these fraudulent pages. The citizens have been requested to notify the appropriate authorities regarding such accounts.
