Contrary to earlier reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will take part in the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) Annual General Meeting (AGM), which is scheduled to be held over the next two days in Dhaka.
The meeting will be chaired by ACC President and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, and is expected to play a decisive role in determining the future of the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup. The tournament is currently slated to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in September and will serve as a key lead-up event to the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The BCCI had initially indicated its unwillingness to participate in the meeting, citing ongoing geopolitical tensions between India and Bangladesh. In addition, the Indian cricket board and the Indian government have maintained a firm stance against resuming bilateral cricketing ties with Pakistan, who are also a principal stakeholder in the Asia Cup.
However, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), Times of India journalist Gaurav Gupta reported that the BCCI has agreed to attend the meeting virtually. The board will be represented by its vice-president and veteran cricket administrator Rajeev Shukla.
The AGM is expected to be attended by representatives from the majority of the 27 ACC member nations, with most officials present in person and a few joining the proceedings online.
Despite India’s initial objections to the meeting being hosted in Dhaka, ACC President Mohsin Naqvi arrived in the Bangladeshi capital on Wednesday, 23 July. He was received by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam upon arrival.
A final decision regarding the hosting rights and structure of the 2025 Asia Cup is expected to be made during the discussions over the coming days.
