Bangladeshi productions ‘In the Path of Giants’ and ‘Ali’ have been selected for the 34th Raindance Film Festival, which will take place from June 17 to 26, with screenings scheduled in the festival’s documentary and short film sections.
The documentary ‘In the Path of Giants’, directed by Fayed Masud Khan and UK-based director Kirsty Wells, is co-production between Bangladesh, Singapore and the UK. The film has secured an official selection at the festival and will be screened on June 21 and 23.
‘In the Path of Giants’ will compete in two categories – Best Feature Documentary and Best Cinematography UK.
According to information published on the official Raindance Film Festival website, the documentary explores the complex challenges emerging from interactions between people and elephants around the world’s largest refugee camp in southern Bangladesh.
The film examines how increasing pressure on land and resources has intensified tensions in the region. It also highlights the struggles faced by Rohingya refugees, local Bengali residents and Indigenous farmers as they contend with issues relating to land, livelihoods, freedom of movement and safe shelter.
Earlier this year, in April, ‘In the Path of Giants’ won the Living With Nature award at the International Wildlife Film Festival.
Bangladesh will also be represented in the festival’s short film section by ‘Ali’, directed by Adnan Al Rajeev.
